In this contemporary society, books take on the invaluable role as cultivators of environments that stimulate discussion, inspire wonder, and facilitate discovery, but how have books become the embodiment of the uplifting and resilience of cultures?
Jesse Feinman, publisher and creator of Pomegranate Press, joins PHOTOVERSE to answer this question, and many more, as he examines the fundamental ideas that surround publishing in the 21st century. Through the existence of Pomegranate Press, Jesse seeks to leverage the longstanding tradition of publishing to explore the multi-faceted aspects of contemporary culture and its many intersections — challenging industry norms and standards while simultaneously advocating for experimentation and innovation. Through candid discussion, Jesse reflects on Pomegranate Press’ journey, including successes, setbacks, and his steadfast dedication to pushing boundaries in the realm of publishing.
Jesse Feinman, originally from Broward County, Florida, began Pomegranate Press in 2015, focusing on accessible, limited-run publications to support emerging artists and broaden photography’s reach. His work has been featured globally in outlets like the New Yorker and Harper’s Bazaar. In 2021, he opened Agony Books in Richmond, Virginia, a hub for curated titles from global publishers, while also designing for brands and musicians, aiming to create immersive worlds that encourage exploration and discovery.
