Educational seminars from over twenty-five photography professionals, inspirational keynote presentations, and networking opportunities with the global photographic community.
The word Photography comes from the Greek words phōtós, meaning “light”, and graphé, meaning “painting”/“drawing”. And while photo-based artists are all “painting with light”, many painters enjoy a freedom and looseness in their craft that photographers, particularly those passionate about storytelling and expressionism, can draw valuable lessons from.
Tune in as Valda Bailey and Doug Chinnery, two artists using the same tools and techniques with their own distinct creative voices, share an informal, yet insightful, conversation discussing their ideas, influences, methods, and motivations. Valda and Doug will dive into how to overcome creative blocks, set boundaries, and explore unconventional approaches to creating images that don’t merely capture their subjects, but their essence as well. Gain insight on narrative techniques and the art of breaking traditional rules as these artists share with you thoughts on where their perspectives align and diverge, as well as the joy and frustrations they’ve encountered on their creative journeys.
Valda Bailey, a freelance photographic artist from Sussex, England, draws inspiration from her background in painting and is motivated by color, form, and dynamic tension in her images. Using in-camera multiple exposures, she creates abstract shapes to convey emotive interpretations rather than literal representations. Valda has exhibited widely, including her U.S. debut in 2017 and solo presentations at MMX Gallery and Bosham Gallery, with her work featured in corporate and private collections worldwide.
Doug Chinnery, described as a “pivotal artist who has redefined the creative photographic landscape,” draws inspiration from Abstract Expressionist painters, creating deeply emotional and expressive responses to the natural environment through his intuitive abstract works. His work, which mirrors his painted mixed media abstracts, layers texture, color, and form to distill the rhythm and flow of the landscape. Doug also dedicates much of his time to teaching and has helped students worldwide express their unique artistic voices, while exhibiting widely and being in demand as a public speaker.
